Mixing colours with Metallic Foils |
|
In effect we are doing something similar to the Annie-Mo decal, but instead of white we are using a coloured Metallic Foil.

Breaking down the image. The Sensenich logo is designed to fit on a laminated wood propeller. Therefore the decal will be applied onto a light background.
Looking at the image there are 3 clear layers required for the decal. First there is the outline of the entire decal in solid black toner. Next the Satin Gold for the feathers, and finally the Teal ring with the text in black relief.

Separating the layers. As for Annie-Mo the artwork is produced in vector format which makes the separation of the colours very easy.
Layer 1: Printed in black toner I decided to ensure its opacity would be zero so I applied #1230 Black TRF although it could be argued that it is not necessary with the light background of the wooden propeller.
Layer 2: Printed in black toner this layer will be coloured with #1208 Satin Gold TRF before application.
Layer 3: The Teal ring is printed in reverse. This is done because it is going to be applied to a black surface and will need #1226 White TRF applying to the back to make the teak colour show.

Layer 1.While I do not have a working example of the assembly I can show it in animation. First the black is affixed to the surface.
The decal was allowed to dry overnight before a light clear lacquer was sprayed over the decal area to seal the first layer down. This is done to prevent the black lifting when the Mylar of the next layer is removed.
You should NEVER fix one decal directly over a previous layer without sealing the first layer down with a fine spray lacquer. |

Layer 2.The #1208 Satin Gold TRF is applied to the black print and then applied directly over the black decal. I made the alignment by eye.
Again the decal was allowed to dry overnight before receiving a light powder coat spray of clear lacquer. |

Layer 3.The Teal ring once covered with #1226 White can be reversed and applied to the decal. And there you have it! |
